Superbowl Sunday

Enormous Spectacle

Enormous Spectacle

So Superbowl Sunday is passed. This sporting event was watched by millions. My interest in it is no where near the level of most of the US. In fact I was at the gym for most of the game. As were many of you. I’m proud of you all.

Whatever your level of interest in football and the superbowl, something that you should all appreciate is the level of athleticism of the players. Here are some statistics of randomly selected players. (Not sure how current these are, but it gives a decent image of where these guys are at)

Sedrick Ellis - Saints

  • 6′0 - 307 lbs
  • 40 yard - 5.5 seconds
  • Vert - 32.5″
  • Back Squat - 560lbs
  • Broad jump - 104″

Mike Bell - Saints

  • 5′ 11″ - 215lbs
  • 40 yard - 4.6 seconds
  • Vert - 33″

Joseph Addai - Colts

  • 5′11″ - 214 lbs
  • 40 yard - 4.37 seconds
  • Vert - 38.5″

Dwight Freeney - Colts

  • 6′1″ - 268 lbs
  • 40 yard - 4.42 seconds
  • Vert - 37.5″

These are impressive numbers. Note the vert statistics are true vertical jump, not a box jump. Any of these guys has a 50″+ box jump. I would guess some could beat our gym record of 58″. And that’s weighing well in excess of 200 lbs. In any case, regardless of your view of the sport, respect the athletes.

I knew those guys were fit, but I had no idea…. those stats are down right scary… “Incredible Hulks” but not green…

It takes a lot to get to that level.
