The Original “Nasty Girls”

Some of you did the workout “Nasty Girls” last Thursday.  You may be wondering where that came from and why it’s called “Nasty Girls”.   Here are the original “Nasty Girls” from old CrossFit headquarters in Santa Cruz:

That was Annie, the Asian girl, Eva, the taller one and former Olympic skier, and Nicole, the cute little one with the worried look in her eyes.  Nicole needed to be more explosive on her muscle-ups.  The static muscle-ups killed her on this workout.  This was one of the early videos and she got even stronger subsequently.  She now runs the level 2 CrossFit certifications.   Annie was just a little met-con machine.  She competed in the affiliate cup this last year for one of the Santa Cruz affiliates.  Eva was so strong.  She made a second athletic career competing in Olympic Lifting meets.  Notice how she just blows through the high hang cleans.

I love this workout, it’s a great representation of a balanced CrossFit workout including a gymnastics movement, the muscle-up, an Olympic Lifting element, the high-hang clean, and a metabolic movement, the air-squats.  I have to say that although all three of them are awesome, I think that Annie was my favorite Nasty Girl.  At the CrossFit certifications she was always so spunky and enthusiastic while coaching.  If you want to see the whole video, you can go to www.crossfit.com > Exercises & Demos > WODs > Nasty Girls.  Who is your favorite Nasty Girl and why?  What is your favorite CrossFit workout?  Why?   Are there any workouts that you would like to see two people from CrossFit Marin go head-to-head on?  If so, which one and whom?  Post thought to comments.

I had never done Nasty Girls until it was on the schedule last Thursday. It sure was nasty … and it has always been one of my favorite WOD videos from crossfit.com

Special thanks to Ben who spent a few extra minutes with me after class a month or two ago … he coached me to my first ever muscle up on the rings, and they sure came in handy for this workout!

I do not really have a favorite Crossfit workout, I dislike them all, especially anything that involves Olympic lifting or putting weight overhead.

    Head-to-head ideas:
    2,000m row: Emily versus Carlos
30 muscle ups: Roger versus Gabe
    4 x 800m run: Ben versus Karen
    Cindy: Katie versus Rich

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

I can’t believe I missed out on Nasty Girls! Perhaps it will come around again in 6 or 7 months. I’m pretty sure I can wait that long.

    Head-to-head:
Box jumps: Nate (new) vs. Brandy
Pushup ladder: Armando vs. Johnny (rematch from the summer!)
Spousal handstands for time: Jeff vs. Dawn, me vs. Dean
    Tabata squats: Karen vs. Steph

Carlos and I weigh the same to the pound right now, so it would be a pretty fair fight on the rower!

Lol… Awesome! I love those matchups. Let’s see if we can make some of them happen. =P Last I talked to Armando, he was going to try to make it back in in December.

One match up that comes to mind would be Ben vs. Carlos on the 2009 CF Games Nor-Cal Qualifier workout A: 500M row + 30 Burpees + 10 165 lbs. shoulder to overhead. Ben would have a bit of a metabolic edge, but carlos can push-press 165 like it was his baby brother. I’ve been wanting to do a little “CFM vs. ‘Showdown’”, so keep brainstorming. Some of these might get nominated later on. Hehe.. how about Martin vs. Gabe on Interval Cindy?? (Instert evil smile here.)
